q&a tom cochrane (winter olympics)

After the Olympic torch showed up, musician Tom Cochrane played on Parliament Hill Saturday. Before the concert, he shared some of his thoughts.

Is Watching the Olympics a chilhood memory of yours?
It sure is. And one of my big heroes was [gold skier] Nancy Greene. I was a hugh fan of the Crazy Canucks... It was one if those things - you cluster around a TV and watch your heroes.

If you could have been in the Olympics, what sport would you have played?
As a kid, I was a hugh bobsled fan. That was a moment - when our four man bobsled team won (1964), and they really were not favoured. I had a hill behind our place in Etobbicoke abd it was all ice. We used to pretend we were the bobsled team. [One time] we got knocked unconscious.....but we survived.

What about now?
When I'm up in Parry Sound where we've got a place...one of the rinks is almost in the middle of the woods. And it's great going out there with my dogs and having them chase the pucks, and just skate, and pretend I'm 10 again.

What would you want the international community to take home from the Olympics?
We're a gracious and generous country. I want them to feel a great sense of hospitality and also a wonderment, because [the West Coast] is an incredible part of the world.
